katapi HOME He Who is Not against Us is for Us - Mk.9.38-41  Lk.9.48-50       | RSV Books | notes

Mark: 9
38John said to him, "Teacher, we saw a man casting out demons in your name [Other ancient authorities add: who does not follow us], and we forbade him, because he was not following us." 39But Jesus said, "Do not forbid him; for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon after to speak evil of me. 40For he that is not against us is for us. 41For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you bear the name of Christ, will by no means lose his reward.

Luke: 9
48and said to them, "Whoever receives this child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me; for he who is least among you all is the one who is great." 49John answered, "Master, we saw a man casting out demons in your name, and we forbade him, because he does not follow with us." 50But Jesus said to him, "Do not forbid him; for he that is not against you is for you."
