2 IUDICUM Judges - Wycliffe Bible(14c) Judges - Douay Rheims(17c) Reference

1 Ascenditque angelus Domini de Galgalis ad Locum flentium, et ait : Eduxi vos de Ægypto, et introduxi in terram, pro qua juravi patribus vestris : et pollicitus sum ut non facerem irritum pactum meum vobiscum in sempiternum : And the aungel of the Lord stiede fro Galgala to the place of weperis, and seide, Y ledde you out of Egipt, and Y brouyte you in to the lond, for which Y swoor to youre fadris, and bihiyte, that Y schulde not make void my couenaunt with you in to with outen ende; And an angel of the Lord went up from Galgal to the place of weepers, and said: I made you go out of Egypt, and have brought you into the land for which I swore to your fathers: and I promised that I would not make void my covenant with you for ever: Bochim. Jdg.2.1-5
2 ita dumtaxat ut non feriretis fœdus cum habitatoribus terræ hujus, sed aras eorum subverteretis: et noluistis audire vocem meam: cur hoc fecistis? so oneli that ye schulde not smyte boond of pees with the dwelleris of this lond, and schulden distrie the auteris of hem; and ye nolden here my vois. Whi diden ye these thingis? On condition that you should not make a league with the inhabitants of this land, but should throw down their altars: and you would not hear my voice: why have you done this?
Wherfore Y nolde do hem awei fro youre face, that ye haue enemyes, and that the goddis of hem be to you in to fallyng. Wherefore I would not destroy them from before your face: that you may have enemies, and their gods may be your ruin.
4 Cumque loqueretur angelus Domini hæc verba ad omnes filios Israël, elevaverunt ipsi vocem suam, et fleverunt. And whanne the aungel of the Lord spak these wordis to alle the sones of Israel, thei reisiden her vois, and wepten; and the name of that place was clepid, And when the angel of the Lord spoke these words to all the children of Israel, they lifted up their voice, and wept.
5 Et vocatum est nomen loci illius, Locus flentium, sive lacrimarum: immolaveruntque ibi hostias Domini. of weperis, ether of teeris; and thei offriden there sacrifices to the Lord. And the name of that place was called, The place of weepers, or of tears: and there they offered sacrifices to the Lord.
6 Dimisit ergo Josue populum, et abierunt filii Israël unusquisque in possessionem suam, ut obtinerent eam: Therfor Josue lefte the puple; and the sones of Israel wenten forth, ech man in to his possessioun, that thei schulden gete it. And Josue sent away the people, and the children of Israel went every one to his own possession to hold it: THE JUDGES: death of Joshua. Jdg.2.6-10
And thei serueden the Lord in alle the daies of Josue, and of eldere men that lyueden aftir hym in long tyme, and knewen alle the grete werkis of the Lord, whiche he hadde do with Israel. And they served the Lord all his days, and the days of the ancients, that lived a long time after him, and who knew all the works of the Lord, which he had done for Israel.
8 Mortuus est autem Josue filius Nun, famulus Domini, centum et decem annorum, Forsothe Josue, sone of Nun, seruaunt of the Lord, was deed of an hundrid yeer and ten; And Josue the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died, being a hundred and ten years old,
9 et sepelierunt eum in finibus possessionis suæ in Thamnathsare in monte Ephraim, a septentrionali plaga montis Gaas. and thei birieden hym in the endis of his possessioun, in Thannath of Sare, in the hil of Effraym, at the north coost of the hil Gaas. And they buried him in the borders of his possession in Thamnathsare in mount Ephraim, on the north side of mount Gaas.
And al that generacioun was gaderid to her fadris; and othere men riseden, that knewen not the Lord, and the werkis whiche he hadde do with Israel. And all that generation was gathered to their fathers: and there arose others that knew not the Lord, and the works which he had done for Israel.
11 Feceruntque filii Israël malum in conspectu Domini, et servierunt Baalim. And the sones of Israel diden yuel in the siyt of the Lord, and thei serueden Baalym and Astaroth; And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they served Baalim. Israel stops worshipping Yahweh.. Jdg.2.11-23
12 Ac dimiserunt Dominum Deum patrum suorum, qui eduxerat eos de terra Ægypti : et secuti sunt deos alienos, deosque populorum, qui habitabant in circuitu eorum, et adoraverunt eos : et ad iracundiam concitaverunt Dominum, and forsoken the Lord God of her fadris, that ledden hem out of the lond of Egipt; and thei sueden alien goddis, the goddis of puplis, that dwelliden in the cumpasse of hem, and worschipeden tho goddis, and excitiden the Lord to greet wraththe, and forsoken hym, And they left the Lord the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt: and they followed strange gods, and the gods of the people that dwelt round about them, and they adored them: and they provoked the Lord to anger.
13 dimittentes eum, et servientes Baal et Astaroth. and serueden Baal and Astoroth. Forsaking him, and serving Baal and Astaroth.
And the Lord was wrooth ayens Israel, and bitook hem in to the hondis of rauyscheris, whiche rauyscheris token hem, and seelden to enemyes, that dwelliden bi cumpas; and thei myyten not ayenstonde her aduersaries; And the Lord being angry against Israel, delivered them into the hands of plunderers: who took them and sold them to their enemies, that dwelt round about: neither could they stand against their enemies:
15 sed quocumque pergere voluissent, manus Domini super eos erat, sicut locutus est, et juravit eis, et vehementer afflicti sunt. but whidir euer thei wolden go, the hond of the Lord was on hem, as he spak and swoor to hem; and thei weren turmentid greetli. But whithersoever they meant to go, the hand of the Lord was upon them, as he had said, and as he had sworn to them: and they were greatly distressed.
And the Lord reiside iugis, that delyueriden hem fro the hondis of destrieris, but thei nolden here hem, And the Lord raised up judges, to deliver them from the hands of those that oppressed them: but they would not hearken to them,
17 fornicantes cum diis alienis, et adorantes eos. Cito deseruerunt viam, per quam ingressi fuerant patres eorum: et audientes mandata Domini, omnia fecere contraria. and thei diden fornycacioun, that is, idolatrie, with alien goddis, and worschipiden hem. Soone thei forsoken the weie, bi which the fadris of hem entriden; and thei herden the comaundementis of the Lord, and diden alle thingis contrarie. Committing fornication with strange gods, and adoring them. They quickly forsook the way, in which their fathers had walked: and hearing the commandments of the Lord, they did all things contrary.
And whanne the Lord reiside iugis in the daies of hem, he was bowid bi mercy, and he herde the weilyngis of hem turmentid, and he delyuerede hem fro the sleyng of wasteris. And when the Lord raised them up judges, in their days he was moved to mercy, and heard the groanings of the afflicted, and delivered them from the slaughter of the oppressors.
Sotheli aftir that the iuge was deed, thei turneden ayen, and diden many thingis grettere in yuel than her fadris diden; and thei sueden alien goddis, and serueden hem, and worschipiden hem; thei leften not her owne fyndyngis, and the hardeste weie bi which thei weren wont to go. But after the judge was dead, they returned, and did much worse things than their fathers had done, following strange gods, serving them and adoring them. They left not their own inventions, and the stubborn way, by which they were accustomed to walk.
20 Iratusque est furor Domini in Israël, et ait: Quia irritum fecit gens ista pactum meum, quod pepigeram cum patribus eorum, et vocem meam audire contempsit: And the strong veniaunce of the Lord was wrooth ayens Israel, and he seide, For this puple hath maad voide my couenaunt which Y couenauntide with her fadris, and dispiside to here my vois; also Y schal not do a wey folkis, And the wrath of the Lord was kindled against Israel, and he said: Behold this nation hath made void my covenant, which I had made with their fathers, and hath despised to hearken to my voice:
21 et ego non delebo gentes, quas dimisit Josue, et mortuus est: whiche Josue lefte, and was deed; I also will not destroy the nations which Josue left, when he died:
22 ut in ipsis experiar Israël, utrum custodiant viam Domini, et ambulent in ea, sicut custodierunt patres eorum, an non. that in hem Y asaie Israel, whether thei kepen the weie of the Lord, and goen ther ynne, as her fadris kepten, ether nay. That through them I may try Israel, whether they will keep the way of the Lord, and walk in it, as their fathers kept it, or not.
23 Dimisit ergo Dominus omnes nationes has, et cito subvertere noluit, nec tradidit in manus Josue. Therfor the Lord lefte alle these naciouns, and nolde destrie soone, nethir bitook in to the hondis of Josue. The Lord therefore left all these nations, and would not quickly destroy them, neither did he deliver them into the hands of Josue.
